Dave has been working in technical theatre since 1994, when he started work as casual crew at the Key Theatre in Peterborough. Under the watchful eyes of the Stage Manager Phill Bracy, Chief Electrician Ian 'Jiff' Lemon and resident Sound Engineer Ian Anderson. Through them Dave formed a firm grasp of many aspects of technical theatre ranging from stage management, set design and construction, rigging, lighting design, and of course live sound reinforcement.
Whilst still working at the Key Theatre Dave Attended college on a
full time basis and achieved a BTEC National Diploma in
Daves full time education continued saw Dave move 'up north', where he studied for 4 years at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston for a BSc (Hons) in Media Technology. During his studies Dave continued to work in the entertainment industry as a freelance Engineer and stage crew for both the UCLan Students Union and the Charter Theatre / Guild Hall in Preston.
After leaving full time education Dave regularly freelanced for countless bands, theatre groups and local venues.
In the summer of 2001 Dave was hired by Tomson Holidays as a 'Thomson Gold Stage Technician'. In this capacity he was posted to Cyprus and given the responsibility of providing sound and lighting for two venues in a 4-Star hotel. As the in-house technician Daves duties included maintaining all of the hotels sound, lighting and stage equipment.
As well as deisghning and operating the technical aspects of all in-house shows Dave acted as Stage Manager for visiting acts and the Tomson Gold production show that toured all the group hotels on the island.
Early in the season Dave's technical skill and knowledge was Widly recognized by the Thomson Management and was regularly called upon to provide technical support for a further two Thomson Gold Hotels and a Thomson Supper Family Hotel on the island.
During His time off-duty Dave learnt how to scuba dive at a 5 star Dive Centre, achiving the qualification of PADI Advanced Open Water Diver by eh end of the season.
After returning to the UK Dave felt the urge to get back into theatre, and in particular musical theatre, and jumped straight back into Panto at the Charter theatre in Preston as No1 sound. This was quickly followed by numerous other dance and musical shows including 'Little Shop of Horrors'.
In 2002, still freelancing, Dave went on to engineer a 10 week UK tour of 'Spots Birthday Party' for Oxford Playhouse Productions. This lead straight on to see Dave as No2 sound for Three consecutive national UK tours of Boogie Nights The Musical for Qdos Productions. During the off season Daves other work included the Blackpool Fireworks Display in 2002 and 2003, as well as the product launch of the (then) new BMW 5 series in Blackpool.
2002 also saw Dave at the Civic Theatre in Darlington as No1 sound for 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' staring Sam Kane and Linda Lusardi, again a Qdos production. The 2003 /2004 Panto season had Dave returning to the Civic Theatre in Darlington for Goldilocks and the 3 bears staring Lesa Riely
Having freelanced for Arranpaul in Blackpool for several years
Dave was taken on full time in 2004 as an in-house engineer and
digital audio specialist.
Dave still works for Arranpaul to this day and in this capacity he has continued to expand his knowledge and experience. Now specializing in RF spectrum management, system design, line array prediction and deployment as well as directional sub array design. To this end is complainant in many industry standard software packages including Smaart, L'Acoustics Sound Vision, Ease Focus and Show Cue System to name but a few.
Whilst at Arranpaul Dave has also significantly increased his knowledge of industry standard rigging techniques and video projection and distribution.
As in-house Engineer and system tech, Dave has worked on a vast
number of theatre shows, festivals, corporate events and one of gigs
